Like Father, Like Son
Recognizing the Christian’s DNA – We should reflect our Father.
Let us first take a quick look at DNA and what it means for us as humans:
- Genetic code for all living things
- Stores biological information
- Pivotal for building and maintaining an organism
- Blueprint for your life
Just as our DNA defines how we will look and act, God created us with a Christian’s DNA to both look and act like HIM!
Genesis 1:26a Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.” (NKJV)
His image refers to our appearance. His likeness refers to our personality. As God’s children, we physically look like Him and His Word has plenty to say on this topic.
Exodus 33:22-23 – back, hands, face
Isaiah 59:1 – arms, ears
Psalm 8:3 – fingers
1 Corinthians 15:27 – feet
2 Chronicles 16:9 – eyes
Matthew 4:4 – mouth
Isaiah 65:5 – nostrils
The devil hates us because we are the reflection and image of God!
Ephesians 5:1-2 “As children copy their fathers you, as God’s children, are to copy him. Live your lives in love—the same sort of love which Christ gives us and which he perfectly expressed when he gave himself up for us in sacrifice to God.” (Phillips)
“My father didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.”
– Clarence Budington Kelland
God expects us to model His behavior. Similarly, we expect our children to model our behavior; however, being kids, they typically model the bad traits – and usually in public!
God gave us a model to follow, and his name is Jesus.
Colossians 1:15 Christ is the visible likeness of the invisible God. (GNT)
Why it was so easy for God to become flesh? He had already molded us after Himself!
John 14:9 If you have seen me, you have seen the Father. (CEV)
The son resembles the father because they are part of the same family. Not only did Jesus look like His Father, He acted like Him as well.
John 5:19 Jesus said to them, “I assure you that the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. What the Son does is always modeled on what the Father does. (Phillips)
The word “model” means to imitate, watch, and do. We should be copying God, being His exact duplicate. We should look like Him, act like Him, and be His exact duplicate. Our daily lives should be a reflection of God’s DNA.
Similar to how children reflect their parents, what reflection do others, especially your family, see in you?
