Jesus died on the cross to restore the rights and privileges we have as God’s children.

We cannot “do” anything to change our DNA; it is what gets restored/changed through grace. Our God-connection was lost when Adam and Eve sinned — a sinful nature replaced God’s nature. Our DNA changed in the garden because of sin; Jesus died on the cross to restore our DNA as children of God.

Galatians 2:16 …knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified (NKJV)

In this verse, “justified” means to be declared righteous in God’s sight and vindicated of any charge of sin in connection with failure to keep God’s law.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (NKJV)

In this verse, “crucified” means that I am crucified with Christ. Crucifixion with Christ means “death to or separation from the reigning power of the old sinful life and freedom to experience the power of the resurrection life of Christ by faith.”

Although by nature we are children of wrath and disobedience, we become children of love, and partake of the nature of God because of grace. Grace is GIVEN, not EARNED!

We have been freed from sin’s control.

Romans 8:1-2 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free (freed me, pardoned me) from the law of sin and death. (NKJV)

When we walk in the power and spirit of the Holy Spirit, we can overcome anything because HE lives in us.

Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. (NKJV)

The direction of our thoughts guides the direction of our lives. We need to align our thoughts with the things of Christ, avoiding influences of evil.

Colossians 3:5-10  And that means killing off everything connected with that way of death: sexual promiscuity, impurity, lust, doing whatever you feel like whenever you feel like it, and grabbing whatever attracts your fancy. That’s a life shaped by things and feelings instead of by God.  It’s because of this kind of thing that God is about to explode in anger. It wasn’t long ago that you were doing all that stuff and not knowing any better. But you know better now, so make sure it’s all gone for good: bad temper, irritability, meanness, profanity, dirty talk. Don’t lie to one another. You’re done with that old life. It’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you’ve stripped off and put in the fire. Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. All the old fashions are now obsolete. (MSG)

Jesus paid our sin debt in full. Once we accept Him as our personal savior, our DNA is changed. Our “new” nature is restored to fellowship with God. We are no longer chained to a life of sin, so we are free to enjoy a personal relationship with Him.
